Project: Creative Multimedia - Concept & Sketch

Believe it or not Avatar can be a powerful thing. Be it into any kind and personalities of avatar can quickly make a user immersed into the virtual world. It’s a quick addition to any adventure and best of all anyone can make it. Avatar is customizable, any style and decorated just how user want it. An avatar creation is so much more than a Sunday afternoon craft, it can spark creativity and imagination in a generation of lazy video gamers.

Our concept is about second life, avatar in the virtual world. That avatar is whoever the user wants to be. We decide to pick a contrast theme about the user and his/her avatar, for example in real world this user is a calm adn ordinary person, people barely know him. But in the virtual world he is a Legendary Orc warrior (we choose this character to show the contrass), rigorous character lots of user known him, they always wanted to go alongside with him. Or maybe vice versa, user is a big guy known as a harsh person, but in virtual world he has a cute character and always have a good mood personalities, everyone loves him there.

In our sketch we try to make a representation of our concept, and we decide to make a poster out of it...

First sketch that comes into our mind is a blend between user and his character, contrass but basically they're one.

this sketch show the user and his character in virtual came into real world.

So we try to create an image of how this avatar became real in reality itself by drawing them stand side by side with the user while the user connect to virtual world using his gadget

Another sketch of the avatar in real world

Then for the final ideation we decide to choose this sketch to represent our concept, using mirror as a "connection" to the virtual world. While the user in real world immersed, the mirror reflect his character rather than his real image, so we want to emphasize the contrass of the avatar.

In the end we decide to make a photo manipulation poster for the final output.

Project: Creative Multimedia - Mind Map

At first we have no Idea what are we going to make, when the lecturer give some explanation it seems easy. But again when we try to think, we get stuck. First we create a logical mind map for Creative Multimedia so that we can find what we looking for and what we are trying to achieve..

And then, we proceed to get some focus point, and we decide to take Non-Linear Multimedia, Non-linear multimedia offers user interactivity to control progress as used with a computer game or used in self-paced computer based training. Hypermedia is an example of non-linear content.

And after we consulted to the lecturer, our mind map is not focused enough since non linear has a lot of kind and branch, so we decide to take Interactivity part, and we focused on Avatar Customization.

And then we try to make an Essay from here, brainstorming and look for the right concept for our final.

What is avatar?
Avatar its second life of body which they have it in their dream, someone or something else completely different who represent them self, in another way  it’s  a graphic representation of user in virtual world

Why the avatar customizations exist?
In a small study of 30 children ages 10 to 12, researchers found evidence to support their hypothesis that avatar customization (as opposed to being assigned an avatar, or choosing from a stock set of avatars) can affect both subjective feelings of presence and physiological indicators of emotions.
Pervading us with an array of highs and lows, ranging from anger and sadness, to love, joy, and contentment, emotions vividly affect our daily lives. So, unequivocally it could be asked, “Why do emotions exist?” It is possible that the sole, underlying principle of emotions is to create a reaction in people and things in our environment; or perhaps they exist to be our governing channel of communication; or maybe they precisely exist to regulate individual self-confidence and disparage. The theory that emotions have a sole principle to generate reactions amongst people, things, and their environment, is very conceivable.

Avator’s are exist   because its based in our mind since we were born and start to see nature, and now avatar representing our self in media which me can modify or make whatever our desire it to be, so total freedom on who we wanted to be in the internet, which can affect both subjective feelings of presence and physiological indicator of emotion… of presence and physiological indicator of emotion.. Of the use pf avatar is, someone want to escape from daily life, dreamt to be another person.. Be bad or good without getting any damage or create damage in the real world. Although sometimes, and most of the time that person drawn into avatar world..

What defines good avatar customization?
The events that have defined avatar have been trials that have tested peoples integrity and their faith. Some part of it like 'channel of communication' is like another way to communicate interactively
Users spent the most time customizing the features they think matter most. They are, in Wow were hair style, facial characteristic, and hair color, different dress up, people need something outrageous for their avatar, something that don't or can't exist in real life, for example ,pet dragon or something and some people also want their avatar just look like them at least.
More options on avatar customization could be, the more it will be interesting, the more it can represent the user.. Or the character of the user or the emotion of the user, and the thing which define good aviator in life its movement of avatar and what it can do  ,

Who is the user of avatar customization?
Person, who needs to represent him/herself in the media, so can say almost everybody because avatar. Its anywhere in media.

 Where can avatars applied to?
Game, music, movie, chat box, bloggers, social net works

When do we need avatar?
to represent yourself in the network, because When we feel like want to express our feeling or emotions, when we get board of real life and  we want avatar  can make difference

All work of design are derivative...

We realize that work of design, all of them come from various sources. Either combine, bluntly copied make it better or even worse.. my point is that all creative works have many similarities and are inspired from older works. even "original" works. e.g - world of warcraft takes stuff from lord of the rings, which in turn takes stuff from folklore and older stories, and star wars lifts ideas from flash gordon.

The video is about how nothing comes without inspiration and how just because something is based of something else doesn't make it a ripoff.

Analogy Exercise

Life is like a chess game because…
1. Chess will always need plan. Planning for the future: Think long term - that’s the key to survival in this game. Before deciding to make a move, think a few steps ahead, as well as in life, this is the foundation of all financial planning exercises.
2. The value of sacrifices: Sometimes there will be a time to give up some of smaller assets to achieve bigger milestones later in the game. Thus like life, sacrifices has to be made to achieve a bigger goal.
3. The importance of consistency: It doesn’t matter how intelligent people are; if they don’t hang in there with consistent positive efforts, the opponent will eventually start eating defenses. Like life because life is a game of mental tenacity.

Life is like a river because…
1. River sometimes has a strong current and slow or smooth, just like life, there will be a time people need to struggle, and there is a time when people have their peaceful life.
2. River flows on it’s course to the final destination, nothing holds it back. Just like years in life, no one cannot hold them off or turn back in time. What can people do is go with the flow and enjoy the ride.

Life is like a dream because…
1. Dream is unreal, the worlds that people live is unreal, the real world is afterlife, and that is where people “wakeup”.
2. Dream offer a random sequence of image, just like life, people will always have random event and random situation.

Life is like novel because…
1. Article has an author. Just like life, the author is the people themselves; everyone has different way to live their lives.
2. The story on each page is like life, each day is a page of a story.

Life is like taxi because…
1. People will need to pay to get on it. Thus like life, we have to pay the fare in order to live.
2. The meter just keeps a-ticking whether they are getting somewhere or just standing still. Just like life, moving or stay the clock keeps ticking.

Analogy tips :)

I surfed some video before doin exercise about analogy, I found this video on youtube. The analogy exercise is about life, hmm I tried to connect some stuff related to life, anything can be related. I think:) and I hope this help..

Lateral thinking

Edward de Bono is regarded by many to be the leading authority in the world in the field of creative thinking and the direct teaching of thinking as a skill.

He invented the term lateral thinking in 1967. It was first written up in a book called "The Use of Lateral Thinking". For many years up till today, this has been acknowledged in the Oxford English Dictionary which is the final arbiter of the English Language.

Based on Edward's book, there are several ways of defining lateral thinking, ranging from the technical to the illustrative.

You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper

This means that trying harder in the same direction may not be as useful as changing direction. Effort in the same direction (approach) will not necessarily succeed.

Lateral Thinking is for changing concepts and perceptions

With logic you start out with certain ingredients just as in playing chess you start out with given pieces. But what are those pieces? In most real life situations the pieces are not given, we just assume they are there. We assume certain perceptions, certain concepts and certain boundaries. Lateral thinking is concerned not with playing with the existing pieces but with seeking to change those very pieces. Lateral thinking is concerned with the perception part of thinking. This is where we organise the external world into the pieces we can then 'process'.

The brain as a self-organising information system forms asymmetric patterns. In such systems there is a mathematical need for moving across patterns. The tools and processes of lateral thinking are designed to achieve such 'lateral' movement. The tools are based on an understanding of self-organising information systems.

This is a technical definition which depends on an understanding of self-organising information systems.

In any self-organising system there is a need to escape from a local optimum in order to move towards a more global optimum. The techniques of lateral thinking, such as provocation, are designed to help that change.

This is another technical definition. It is important because it also defines the mathematical need for creativity.

Juxtaposition Exercise

For this assignment, I picked some random number and the are:

73 = Dog & Wind
07 = Fly & Tree
52 = Fire & Rock

Dog...Wind...

The neighbor’s dog can cast a big wind through its mouth

then.. mixing them together

dog and wind

become "DOGWIND"

the next is Fly... Tree..

My cat run away and fly onto the top of the tree

then mixing them together...

Fly and Tree
as a "FLYTREE"

Last but not least is Fire...Rock..

Someone starts a fire and everyone try to extinguish it with a rock

mix them together as..

Fire and Rock

"FIREROCK"

Juxtaposition?

By definition in composition, the placing of verbal elements side by side, leaving it up to the reader to establish connections and impose a meaning.
These verbal elements (words, clauses, sentences) may be drawn from different sources and juxtaposed to form a literary collage.

So simply stated, juxtaposition means things side-by-side. In art this usually is done with the intention of bringing out a specific quality or creating an effect, particularly when two contrasting or opposing elements are used. for example "it is the result of the juxtaposition of contrasting colors", contrasting those 2 colors brings about some effect.... brings out some emotion, or recognition, etc.

There are many of good juxtaposition posters around, but this time I'm gonna share some of billboard juxtapositions that have been making companies and causes look dumb for years. here are some examples.

Logical Mind Map

Mind Mapping

Mind mapping, invented by Tony Buzan in the 1960s. Mind Map is a convenient graphical tool to help you think and learn by putting complex thoughts or interconnected ideas into two dimensions. Mind maps utilise words, images, numbers, logic, rhythm and spatial awareness in a uniquely powerful package. Consequently, mind mapping can be used to take lecture notes, plan an essay/dissertation/thesis, outline a presentation/seminar, revise a topic being studied, make notes from text books, summarise articles/chapters, organise one’s thoughts about any topic (whether academic/emotional/personal), etc.

There are three basic types of mind map, they are library map; Presentation map and; Tunnel timeline map.

A Library map is a collection of reference information for the purposes of
  • transferring information and knowledge
  • storing and recovering useful materials
  • understanding or learning something
A Presentation map is a story or an argument, designed to
  • Inform an audience in a directed fashion
  • Argue a proposition or case
  • Make a call to action
A Tunnel Timeline map is a map that is designed around delivering an outcome. The primary purpose of this kind of map is to visualise success. You are drawing a picture of what success looks like, and showing the actions on the path or paths to reach it. Use Tunnel Timelines for
  • Project outlines and plans
  • Strategies
  • Problem solving
An Example of a Mind Map

Mind mapping tends to polarise people into two types: those who become very enthusiastic users and those who seem to hate it. It is probably reflective of how people think. The enthusiasts
are those who already think in a hierarchal and organised manner and need a device like this to organise and put down their thoughts on paper. For the non-enthusiasts, please give mind-mapping a try before giving up! and the best way to use mind map is with a pencil or pen and paper (A3 size).

Creativity is..

Creativity.. create an activity? creation infinity?

You can make your very own definition of creativity.. My point is 'Creative' has a lots of meaning and type. just like if you invent something which has never existed before or something which exists elsewhere but you are not aware of.. and then invent a new process for doing something. Re-apply the existing process or product into a new or different market, or maybe develop a new way of looking at something (bringing a new idea into existence) and change the way someone else looks at something..

It is 'Limitless' (just like the title of the movie limitless) but hey, guess what?
In fact, we are all creative every day because creativity does not have to be about developing something new to the world, it is more to do with developing something new to ourselves. When we change ourselves, the world changes with us, both in the way that the world is affected by our changed actions and in the changed way that we experience the world.

and because Creative is an ability, ability to imagine, ability to create.. just for example like art student.. they have the ability to imagine and the ability to visualize using drawing or software etc. Not of all people have that ability, some people have the ability to imagine, but not visualize and ask people who have the ability to visualize. The main point is and again we are all 'Creative'

There is a LOT of methods for being creative.. each of us can learn from each other, and then create our own pattern for being creative for people to recognize our work.

We don't have to eat 'Special pills' (inspired from 'LIMITLESS' movie) to get our brain 100% utilized and burst out the creativity.. practice to let all the ideas out and confident, just like the proverb.. Mistakes aren't fun, but they sure are educational. :)

Cheers
